Right to Repair Campaign

The Right to Repair is about Consumer Choice.

Vehicle manufacturers are restricting access to the tools, training and diagnostic and repair software required for independent installers to properly service modern vehicle applications.  The vehicle manufacturers; Chrysler, Ford, Honda and Toyota, are not keeping pace with others who are supporting the consumer’s right for choice.

By placing restrictions on access to tools, training and information to the independent aftermarket, vehicle manufacturers are engaging in an anticompetitive practice and placing an added cost upon drivers, the economy and the environment.

Organizations such as the Automotive Industries Association (AIA) have attempted to work directly with the automobile manufacturing industry to resolve the problem within the industry.  Some have made the information available to the aftermarket industry.  Others, notably Chrysler, Ford, Honda and Toyota have continuously refused to recognize Canadian consumers’ rights.

There is a broad coalition of local, regional, provincial, national and international groups supporting our position.  Pollution Probe recognizes the environmental consequence of the stance of these vehicle companies.  The consumer advocates for drivers support the Right to Repair, including major groups like the Canadian Automobile Association (CAA), the Retail Council of Canada.

Consumers are starting to make known their displeasure with the big vehicle manufacturer’s position.  Several hundred have responded to recent media articles describing the frustration with the vehicle manufacturers while voicing support for politicians willing to do something about this.

Please help us to raise awareness with all political parties and ask for support to resolve this issue for all 410,000 technicians working in the aftermarket repair and service industry.  This is a local issue that every candidate in every constituency should be made aware of.  Ask your candidates to voice their support for consumer choice, for the Right to Repair.

King-O-Matic Industries is a proud supporter of the Right to Repair issue as it directly affects our customers and threatens the future viability of our industry.  Please visit the Right to Repair site through the link bellow and learn how to get involved.
